          PYTHIAN SISTERS

Pythian Sisters is a fraternal order with members throughout the United States and Canada. We honor the Holy Bible and all religions but are aligned with none. The Flags of our two Countries have important roles in our meetings but we have no political agenda.

The Order, an independent auxiliary of the Honorable Order of the Knights of Pythias, was founded on October 23, 1888 with the institution of our first temple, located in Warsaw, Indiana.

The Fraternal Order of the Knights of Pythias boasts a beautiful ritual based on the remarkable story of the boundless friendship between two men of ancient times - Damon and Pythias. Its founding took place in 1864 in Washington, D.C., with the institution of its first lodge, chartered by an act of the United States Congress, on the order of President Abraham Lincoln, in his desire to find a means to ease the human conflict and suffering created by the Civil War.

We maintain that friendship and strong family relationships are essential factors for a happy life.

The work of the Pythian sisters covers a broad field. It is not confined to the local Temple nor to the field of Pythianism.

The Pythian Sisters organization, in addition to its beautiful, meaningful ritualistic work, is engaged in altruistic efforts second to none among women's organizations.

The Order of Pythian Sisters support many different charities, including Cerebral Palsy and Special Olympics.

The Pythian Sisters maintain a youth organization with like purposes called the "Pythian Sunshine Girls" for girls, ages eight to twenty years of age.

          Pythian Sisters are encouraged:

To be vitally interested in public affairs on the national, state and local levels.

To be an advocate for the social betterment of the communities in which they live.

To bring about a spirit of cooperation, friendship and goodwill among women.

To extend opportunities to all through participation.

          Our Mission:

To bring together women of diverse backgrounds and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow through the principles of Purity, Love, Equality, and Fidelity.
