C. J. Pugh made a trip to Salem Saturday. The Falls City Lumber Co. mill has shut down for 30 days. Charlie O'Bryan of Portland was visiting here this week. C. L. Hopkins has returned from his peach orchard near McMinnville. Mrs. G. G. Walker of Independence visited friends here last Sunday. Mrs. Hattie Tice and mother returned Tuesday from Bellknap Springs. Rev. Hicks of the Christian Church was in Dallas a few days last week. Mr. Burman the foreman of F. C. Lumber Co., made a trip to Portland Tuesday. Mrs. D. D. Finley came from Portland today to spend the summer with her son, Wm. Finley. Dr. Noyes of Portland has been in charge of the office of Dr. Hellwarth, during the latter's absence. Will Hinshaw has been in charge of the Harrington confectionery during the honeymoon of the proprietor. Mrs. Minnie Hutton returned Monday to her home in Puyallap, Wash., after a visit with her brother, Dr. Officer. Dr. W. B. Officer has received a complete line of office furniture from Chicago the first of the week for his office at Dallas. Dr. and Mrs. Hellwarth and M. L. Thompson returned Friday from Tillamook where they had been spending the week. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Vangilder and family of Glendale are visiting Mrs. Vangilder's brother, N. Selig and family this week. Grandma Courter who is quite ill has been moved to the home of her son, Alex Courter where she can receive better attention. Mrs. J. P. DeWitt of Monmouth has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. I. G. Singleton and her son, Frand DeWitt the past week. Miss Wampler and Miss Ware of Portland, and Mrs. Strayer of Falls City were the guests of Dr. and Mrs. E. J. Scheetz, Monday. Dr. C. J. Smith, Democratic candidate for Governor was in Falls City Tuesday the guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Strayer. The Doctor was on his way from Newport to Tillamook and threatens to make Falls City another visit before he is (?) elected. The campaign does not seem to worry him greatly as he is a hale and husky looking specimen. Mrs. M. M. Wonderly and her three sons returned Thursday afternoon from a visit in Eastern Oregon. The left here the 28th day of June and visited at The Dalles, Moro, Tyghe Valley and Portland. They are glad to get home. Mrs. B. W. Robison returned Thursday from Newport. W. P. Lewis and family returned Tuesday from Newport. Mrs. T. D. Hollowell and her sister, Mrs. Nisewender are visiting in Washington. They will also visit at Portland and Oregon City before they return. They left Mr. Hollowell to keep batch. Tom says that it keeps him pretty busy feeding cats, chickens and Tom and then get any time to tend the garden. When his wife left he said she could stay all summer if she wanted to, but he is getting very anxious to see "the old woman" in the kitchen. Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Roberts and two sons Herschel and Louis came in their automobile Saturday morning from Portland to visit Mrs. Robert's sister, Mrs. I. G. Singleton and her brother Frank DeWitt. They remained until Sunday morning when they made the return trip via Newburg where they expect to visit a sister living there. Miss Eunica Hodges of Eugene niece of Mrs. C. L. Hopkins is visiting Mrs. Sevier of Dallas. RETURN FROM OUTING

The young couple left for a honeymoon trip to Portland and vicinity. Mr. Harrington is one of the "sweet" young men of our town and Mrs. Harrington (Miss Benton) one of the "sweet" young ladies, for they both spent most of their waking hours in a "Sweet shop." The friends of the young couple wish them well and a long and happy life, after Mr. Harrington gets his ducking in retaliation for his secrecy. WEBB - HINSHAW

The Epworth League business meeting was held in connection with a social last Saturday evening on the banks of the Luckiamute. Home made ice cream was served in cantelope dishes and some jolly games and contests were features of the delightful social. Lavon Gottfried of Hoskins spent a half hour with us and added to the pleasure of the evening. Fourth Quarterly Conference will be held Sept. 4th at 3:30 p.m. M. A. Marcy, Pastor.
