Persey and Rosie Otterbein visited friends at Salem and McCleay, over Easter. Mayor F. K. Hubbard was at Black Rock Wednesday and Thursday, registering voters. Graham returned Friday of last week, from a two weeks stay at the Portland sanitarium. He is still in poor health. Mrs. Anna Elkins celebrated her 50th birthday anniversary, last Sunday. A number of her friends and neighbors were callers. Two loggers were held up in Black Rock a few nights ago, by two strangers, and robbed of their valuables, except $50 that was over looked. The Falls City hotel property has been cleaned up and fenced and made more attractive than it has been since Tom Hollowell was forty years of age. The school directors will hold a special meeting at Talbott's store next Monday evening, for the purpose of hiring teachers and a janitor for 1914-15. The Art Club met at the residence of Mrs. Albert Teal, Tuesday. The meeting on Tuesday of next week will be held at the home of Mrs. S. H. Tetherow. Mrs. D. D. Mitchell, of Washburn, N. D., who had been visiting the Perseys for several weeks, went to Portland, Thursday of last week, to visit friends in that city. That the popular ladies of Falls City use good judgement, is shown by their selection of Hats at the Fashion Milliney, located at McPherren's photograph gallery. "It is whispered" that Irving Matthews will put up another building to front on the footbridge for a barber shop. "It's a cinch" that three barber shops in Falls City are two too many. Miss Romine, teacher of the 7th and 8th grades, resigned last Friday, and returned to her home in Washington. Mr. Carly, of the Monmouth normal, is now teaching the 7th and 8th grades. J. S. S. Powell helped Mrs. Meyer organize the Oakhurst school, Monday, for work in preparing to make exhibits at the county fair. Mr. Powell also visited the Falls City school for the same purpose. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. S. Powell gave an Easter-day dinner, which was attended by the following: Mrs. C. O'Brien and children, of Philomath; C. E. Powell and family; Cleve Powell and wife; Mrs. Hulburt. It was in the nature of a family reunion. W. E. Newsom was in Falls City Wednesday and Thursday, making final settlement of his business here. He still owns the strip of ground along the river east of Bridge street, and intends, this Summer, to clear up the rubbish, prune the young fir trees and make it an attractive place. We will then name it Newsom Park.
