Barnhart returned Tuesday from Iola, Kansas after an indefinate stay. Albert M. Coxe of Butte, Montana was in this city Friday of last week. Mr. Coxe is engaged in the copper mining business at Butte. He says that while trade conditions are somewhat improved they are nothing like normal. Visit the store of N. Mrs. Emma Hinshaw returned Wednesday from Albany where acted as a delegate in the Pythian Sisters convention held there. Mrs. A. E. Seymour was called to Washington Sunday by a message stating the death of her father. W. M. Black is able to be out again after a siege with the grippe. Mrs Wm. Finley and Mrs. Hattie Tice were in Dallas Thursday. R. L. Chapman Funeral Director at Dallas was here Thursday. B. F. Beezley returned to his home in Newport Monday after spending the week with his mother, Mrs. Sarah Beezley. Born to Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Brown the first of the week, a boy. The S. F. C. & W. Ry. is putting in a train order signal switch at the depot. Hartungs contest votes will be counted Saturday night March 20. Mrs. N. E. Taylor returned Saturday from a visit with her parents at Oregon City. Wm. Junker of Corvallis was in town Monday looking for a location. He is well pleased with the country. Bert Dennis family have moved to Salem. Dorothy Bradley while playing with the Deultgen boy fell and injured her arm. Rev. Hicks went to Dallas Thursday to finish a series of meetings being held there by Evangelist Van Winkle. Rev. Van Winkle was called to Tillamook by the illness of his sister. C. J. Pugh made a business trip to Salem and Portland the first of the week. C. L. Hopkins went to McMinnville Saturday to look after his peach crop. Alvain Rains went to Linn Co., Friday on business. A. H. Dodd took some stock to Benton this week. Work commenced this week at Spauldings camp 8. Several men left Tuesday for that place. Josh Talbott was in Portland on business the first of the week. W. B. McKown has been unable to attend to his duties at the school house this week on account of an attack of the grippe. R. Paul went to Dallas Thursday. C. J. Pugh went to Dallas Thursday to make repairs on the Black telephone lines. J. L. Ford left Wednesday for Eugene to visit his son. Mrs. E. R. Lewis and son left Tuesday for a visit with her parents at Monmouth. C. M. Munson will start up his mill Monday. This is welcome news to everyone. A. F. Courter went to Brownsville, Oregon Thursday. Mrs. Hutton of Pyallup, Wash., came Thursday in response to a telegram stating the death of her brother, Dr. W. B. Officer. Mrs. Mary E. Pugh and Misses Violet and Audrey Stewart left Thursday for Vancouver, Wash. DIES OF PNEUMONIA
Dr. Officer was 48 years of age and was born in Gentry county, Mo., Dec. 13, 1867, and grew to manhood there. He attended the St. Louis Medical College where he took a six years course in medicine and surgery, graduating at the age of 26 years. After his graduation he visited his parents for several weeks and then went to Grass Valley, California where he practiced his profession for several years and then removed to Eagle Point, California. He next went to Portland, Oregon where he practiced for two years as a Brain Specialist. He came to Falls City in 1907 and has resided here ever since. Dr. Officer was a highly educated man and a successful and skillful physician. At a state medical examination he passed the highest grade of any practiconer in Oregon. He was of a kind disposition and was always ready to help those who were in need of the necessaries of life. His many friends in Falls City express their regards in reverance to the deceased. The deceased leaves a father and mother who reside at Slater, Saline county, Mo., and five brothers and three sisters: John, Franklin, Hurbert and Orville Officer who live in the vicinity of Slater and Noah Officer who lives at Corfu, Wash. Mrs. Ellen Campbell and Mrs. Clara Ayres, both of Slater, and Mrs. Chas. Hutton of Puyallup, Wash. The body was shipped Thursday to Dallas where the funeral services will be held Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the undertaking parlors of R. L. Chapman. Rev. B. L. Hicks of the Christian church of this city will officiate. Burial will be made in the Odd Fellows cemetery. The Moose order will have charge of the ceremony.

Bradley The office of secretary seemed a hard one to fill as all who were nominated declined and it was left over until next meeting night. Treasurer - L. C. Tyler Class editor - Mrs. P.
