          City Marshal Lewis has restored the fountain at the corner of Bridge and South Main, and he that is athirst may drink of the water freely.

          G. Sowers has sold his picture machine to a Portland man and Falls City has only one picture show. Mr. Sowers will remove the seats and staging and restore the building to its original condition with a view of a stock of general merchandise being put in.

          At the special meeting of the council at Toller's Hall Monday night a committee was appointed to meet a committee from the council to prepare and submit to the council proposed amendments to the charter. The committee met Wednesday night and will submit their report with recommendations to the council at its next regular meeting, Tuesday February 2.

          Helen Hopkins has the mumps.

          Burt Dennis is in the city this week.

          Mr. Ole Elle's children are improving.

          There are several cases of mumps in town.

          J. J. Krebs of Independence was in Falls City Friday.

          Mrs. Alvin Rains visited in Dallas Saturday and Sunday.

          Fred J. Holman and wife of Dallas spent Sunday in this city.

          Mrs. W. T. Grier visited her husband at Salem Thursday and Friday.

          Thirteen are out of the seventh grade this week on account of sickness.

          John Teal, Jr. is the proud father of a 12 pound boy. It was born on January 15.

          Grandma Courter is able to walk around a little. Her many friends will be pleased to hear this.

          The Ladies Aid of the Christian Church are having some work done on their parlors in the church.

          Mrs. Allen came from Portland to visit her husband. She returned Monday.

          Mrs. Nellie Spears who is staying with her mother, Mrs. Wm. Ford, went to Eugene and other points on a visit.

          Chas. Hartung returned Monday from Portland where he has been spending a few weeks. Charlie says he had the time of his life.

          The Simpson Logging Company and the Spaulding Logging Company have been enjoined from floating logs down the Big Luckiamute.

          It is reported that the Falls City Lumber Company's store will re-open the eighth of February. The store has been closed since about the middle of October.


        LOST HIS PORK CHOPS
          Last Sunday night Wm. Finley retired to rest at peace with mankind, and with visions of juicy pork-chops for breakfast. But he was doomed to a bitter disapointment. During the night some heartless wretch invaded the sanctity of the store room and swiped about sixteen pounds of said pork-chops, a cake and a lot of canned fruit. The door of the store room usually was locked, but had been forgotten and William refuses to be consoled.


        BIRTHDAY DANCE
          A birthday dance was given at the home of Frank DeWitt on Saturday night, January 16th in honor of the DeWitt twins.

          About sixty-five friends gathered to do honor to the occasion. Many nice presents were bestowed among which was a beautiful water set to each of the twins, given by the friends assembled, and was highly appreciated. Supper was served at midnight with "sauer kraut as desert," to which Roy McMurphy did full honors.

          Games and excellent music, and the hours passed too quickly. The guests departed wishing the twins many happy returns.
