Falls City Electric Co. MOLOCH, OR WHO?
"A form of heathenism or demon worship has developed in the so-called Christian nations of the world within a century, that has increased to colossal proportions until it bids fair to paralize the church of God in its endeavor to convert the world. I have been watching its growth and extension for over half a century and studying the conditions and effects resulting from it, which are appaling in magnituded. It has its foundation in a simple human practice that appeals to the nervous sensibility. Steadily, little by little is has reached almost the whole of the masculine population of the civilized globe, who have reached adult years and within the last twenty years has reached backward to include not only the young men and boys but the young women and girls; even the children appear to be joining and indulging in the seductive practice. If you doubt the accuracy of my statements or the virulence of the evil, just examine the people you meet on the street or amoung your friends. The most of them, especially the younger portion of them have a sallow, anxious, nervous, run-down appearance. They are thin, pale, gaunt, stoop-shouldered and short. Their fathers were full grown men, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet 3 inches. The young men are mostly "sawed-offs." Look at them! Every second or third man you meet is practically a one-handed man: that is, one hand is occupied in carrying a piece of burnt or burning tobacco. I wonder if that is the active sign of their allegience to the god of tobacco? Who is this god that they serve anyway? I do not know if it be Moloch or some other? I only know it is not Jehovah. Very few of the men who indulge in the tobacco habit make any profession of religion. The men who sought God in the Moody revivals invariably threw away their pipes. In all mission halls all over the Continent the tobacco habit and whiskey habit are stood together as unholy and men seeking pardon have quit both before the Holy Spirit will testify to their salvation. The "Billie Sunday" revival meetings at the present time are a substantial proof of my statement. I never knew an earnest, wide awake, soul saving Christian teacher that indulged in the tobacco habit. I will admit it was different in our father's time fifty to one hundred years ago. Tobacco was not scientificaly prepared then to control the human will as it is at present. Time and human manipulation make mighty changes in conditions and that which then might be tolerated as convenient has become a mighty evil that must be reckoned with or its death-dealing and stupefying character will drive the human race in a few generations to the Evil one whom they serve by their practice and its use." ![]() |
