Falls City Notes / Dorothy Cassidy
Is your Christmas tree up yet? We put ours up last night. I always enjoy turning the lights out, sitting in the quiet and watching the lights on the tree twinkle in the dark. As our two sons were growing up we had a family tradition about the tree. We would get our saw and head for the mountains. On our way we would stop and get a $2 permit to go tree hunting.
Sometimes we would get into snow, which always added to the fun and excitement of the trip. It was always a great day even if we came back wet and dirty and a tree three feet too tall to fit into the house!

I was in the post office the other day and noticed there were still a few children's gift tags left on the Giving Tree in the lobby. Postmaster Doug Marshall says we have until Dec. 19 to pick a tag, buy a gift and have it to the post office. I know when money is tight it is hard to think about helping someone else, but maybe several people could get a gift together.

I visited the high school to check in with the seniors about the progress of their projects. Each group of students was eager to share their particular interest. When I begin to acquaint you with each activity group there will be opporturnty to donate funds as well as physical assistance in some cases.

What a great school! Each teacher I talked with was so excited to be a part of it. They all had such great ideas -- made me want to go back to school (almost!). The students in the Construction Class are building a new shop to house all of the tools, equipment and supplies to be able to do community service projects next year. The building looks great!

While there, I heard some comments made by an employee of the Willamette Valley Educational District. This person visits many schools. He said the students at Falls City are the best! They are helpful, polite and ready to open doors, carry boxes or whatever a person might need. Way to go! The community is proud of you.

The restoration and addition at the Falls City United Methodist Church are coming along. I am sure the congregation will enjoy many activities in the additional space.

As we recall and appreciate the past, we also eagerly anticipate and prepare for the good yet to come. Each one of us will leave a heritage for those who follow. Let's invest who we are and what we have to make that heritage one worth following. It is never to late!
Until next time, blessings on your home.

Editor's note: Last week Dorothy recognized local homeowners for their cheerful holiday decorations, but an editing change made it sound like she was writing about just one house. Her intention was to praise all those who've made these efforts.
