Summer brings new faces and fond memories of past
When it was raining and cold we promised ourselves we would never complain about the heat again! I am afraid some of us have failed on that promise already. I am happy summer finally arrived, though. There's nothing like going to the falls or the swimming hole to cool off.
Or, the wading pool in the back yard for the "little people." Any water will do after a hot day of picking raspberries.
I know -- they are mostly picked by machine now, but I think every kid should have that experience at least once (and once is enough)! So many great memories are made during summers. Hey, it's August -- can football be far behind?

Speaking of great memories -- Herman and Elizabeth Stout (and the whole gang) took a trip to Diamond Lake. I heard about the good food from a proud Dad. I also heard about the fishing. Elizabeth won the bragging rights with her 18-inch trout. Way to go, Elizabeth!

The Falls City Garden Club has certainly been having fun this summer. In June they had a "progressive" tour of members' gardens, followed by dinner. In July, they visited the incredibly beautiful garden of Polk County Master Gardener Jean Astrinsky.
According to Gladys they had a wonderful evening touring the gardens, sipping in the shade and then enjoying a potluck meal. Watch for details of their August adventure!

Welcome mat is out
We would like to welcome our new librarian, Valerie Hauser. She has worked at Salem, West Salem, and Dallas Public Libraries, and currently is working toward her master's degree in Library and Information Management. Very impressive, I think!
Very impressive, too, is that she is very helpful and friendly. She is looking forward to having a group of volunteers after she gets settled in. If that sounds like something you would like to be a part of, keep it in mind and check in with Valerie in a few weeks.

I was privileged to be a guest at last week's Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds reading program at the library. The performance was by Heather "Pearl" of the Nomadic Theatre Company in Portland. There was dancing on stilts, clowning around, juggling and balancing acts -- and lots of laughing!

The welcome mat is also out for William Thomas Ronco. The "brute", as he was called at the hospital, weighed in at just under six pounds. Congratulations, Jason and Casandra.

Welcome also to Doug Marshall, our new postmaster. Congratulations on your new position, Doug, and may you have a pleasant and rewarding stay with us.

Fire Hall/Community Center
Progress is being made on this important ptoject. It was a lot of work, but the old building has been taken down to make room for the a one.
Construction on the new building should be under way this week. The contractor says it will go very fast once it gets started.

I feel honored to be part of such a beautiful place and great community. Until next time, blessings on your home.
