Falls City Notes / Dorothy Cassidy
Little things bring peace

It was so quiet. The usual morning traffic had not started yet. I couldn't sleep so I decided to get outside and fertilize the lawn. Doesn't that sound exciting?

Actually it was very peaceful. The birds were at the feeders for breakfast as the sun filtered through the big fir tree. I came around a corner and startled a covey of quail as they ate the cracked corn I had put out. Yes, I know there are many serious problems to deal with in all of our lives, but it sure helps to be able to have those good things to appreciate as well.

I owe an apology and a correction for item a couple of weeks ago. The students who were learning to sew and were working on a baby quilt were not from the high school; they were from the elementary school. The activity was in Marfa Levine's class of 4th and 5th graders.

That makes the activity all the more surprising and commendable! Thanks for bringing that to my attention, Lilli. And please forgive me fpr misspelling your name. I appreciate all of you so much for your input and friendship.

The big garden club plant sale was this past weekend. I hope many of you had a chance to take advantage of some of those bargains. I got an early peek at the selection as I had to be in class all day Saturday.

Given that there are so many older homes in town, we have the opportunity to see and purchase some plants that you do not see as often in the stores or nurseries. Thank you to all of you gardeners who make this possible.

I talked to the Gilberts last week. It is great to hear the excitement they have for all that is being done or will be done in the future. The school is blessed to have people dedicated to "rolling up their sleeves" and getting things done. As I am around town I hear more and more names of others doing the same. There seems to be a real anticipation of good things to come.

The new stairway going down the hill at the high school is well on its way. There were quite a number of people there working on it the other day. Thank you to all of the students and the adults who are giving time and energy toward this project.

By the way, the reason the ground in front of the Mountain Gospel Fellowship is dug up is because there is going to be a functional and attractive cement area in place of the dirt. There will be benches also. So when it is finished, please feel free to sit and "rest a spell" or stop and eat when you are on lunch break from the high school.

Until next time -- blessings on your house.
