Falls City Notes / Dorothy Cassidy
I love this time of year. Everything seems so full of life.
I got moved into my house too late last fall to plant my bulbs, so I had to plant them this year. It just happened that the day I had available to plant was also the day before that last hard freeze we had. I really didn't know if the bulbs would make it or not, but they did! Many are ready to bloom now.
A little past when they should be blooming -- but blooming nonetheless.
Along with flowers, spring and the Easter season bring a renewed sense of hope. There is that feeling that no matter what has happened in the past, there is hope that life can change --- or that I can change. Even if things are not the same, or what I expected, there is hope for joy to come again.

Falls City had a wonderful past, and there are many people who are determined to help the town to have a great future as well. Several citizens have taken a class by Shelley Hanson on grant-writing skills. People brought ideas of ways to make the town better, not just for the present but for the kids and the future. I think everyone left with ways to make their ideas into reality.

Laura Gilbert, a parent volunteer who is coordinating the efforts to build a new playground for the elementary school and the community, went to the grant-writing class and has the final plans posted at the school. They expect to make repairs needed on the play shed and then to have a "paint party" in May. You can call her at 503-787-1816 if you would like to help.
One of the next things to be done will be to repave the street and put in new sidewalks.
I am so thankful there are people who have the vision to dream big and then to work to accomplish it! Thank you, Laura, and all of you who are working so hard on this and other projects.

Gladys (president of the Falls City Garden Club) said last week's meeting featuring Gary from Guy's Hardware was excellent. She said they learned a lot about soil and amendments and other good stuff on planting.
Guy's will host a Kids Planting Party from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 22 for a $5 fee. The kids get to do the work and take a plant home. Sounds like fun!
On April 27, the club will have Wes Canaga of the new local business Somewhere In The Garden as speaker. On the April 29 the club will host its annual plant sale at the Mountain Gospel Fellowship building.
Club members will host a potluck afterwards. Everyone is invited to join them.
What a very busy week!

My prayer is that as you see signs of new life and hope in the world of nature around you that you will have a renewed sense of hope in your own life. We can determine to look back only enough to learn and then let it go.
Until next time -- blessings on your home.
