Falls City Notes / Dorothy Cassidy
Church restoration nearly done

As we stood in the sanctuary with the sun shining through the windows (for a moment, at least!), the pride was evident as Melodie Hamilton and Bob and Barb Goodman talked about what had been done to the historic church building.

As you all know, the United Methodist Church building was erected in the late 1800s and has been a part of the town since its beginning.

Hamilton and the Goodmans, with help from others, are entering the final phases of the restoration process. As they were pulling up flooring boards, an old letter was found. The stories that building could tell!

They are having an Open House from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 9. I know you would enjoy seeing and hearing about this part of Falls City history.

When Bob retired he and Barb moved to Falls City. I am not sure anyone has explained to him what "retire" means, because from what I have heard they certainly have not stopped working! They were also responsible for much of the work to get the elementary school library open again. Thank you, Bob and Barb, for all you do.

I saw Lilly at the post office last week and she was telling me what fun they had at the high school. Students in one of the classrooms were making quilt blocks for a baby blanket. She said they had a great time teaching them how to sew.

Yes, the guys were sewing too. Hey moms, maybe they can sew buttons on their clothes now. Or maybe not.

We are looking April in the face, so that means that school will be out for the summer break before we know it. But there are some activities and opportunities still ahead for you to help with. Senior projects still need to be finished, and I know the students would appreciate your physical as well as some financial help.

You can call the school and be put in touch with the right project to match your skills. The school also is preparing for the senior party and would appreciate help with that. The elementary school will be working on the playground changes and equipment through the summer, and is holding fund raisers. To help, just contact the school for more information.

How about that new sign in front of the high school? I think it is great. Do you think we will have traffic problems from people watching it?

Signs of new life are all around us this time of year. Nothing says "spring" more than lambs bouncing around in a field. Of course, being a gardener, the flowers and trees budding and blooming get me excited. Planting in the fall and then watching as the plants break through the ground in the spring is always an amazing thing to me.

Life is much like that. Sometimes we wonder if effort spent on helping others is of any real value. We "plant" love and caring, and it may take years, or maybe even a lifetime, to see it bloom. But it is never wasted.

Although we might be just a small part of a person's life as we pass through, good will "grow" -- and just maybe we will also be changed and blessed by giving.

Until next time - blessings on your house.
