Reading dogs help library celebration
I had the privilege of attending a wonderful activity at the elementary school recently. The library has been closed for several years due to lack of funding. But the librarian, Valerie Hauser, parents and even kids who gave up recess time were able to get the library ready for re-opening.
To celebrate, Melissa Parsley brought her trained therapy dogs to have a "Read to the Dogs" day at the library. The students loved it! Candy, Sugar, Jax, Honey, and Baby patiently listened to "their" students' stories.
The library is such an important part of education. I hope it never has to face another closing. I remember how magical the library seemed. All of those rows of books, just waiting to take you around the world or to another world of science or adventure.

I also met Nicky Labrado, the new Parent Involvement Coordinator. She has a lot of great ideas, but she is going to need your help. If you have ideas or time she would love to hear from you. She will be notifying us of upcoming activities and ways to participate. We are building the future.

I have been asked to say "thank you" to Gwen Wright in the elementary school kitchen and to Sandy at the Wagner Library. They are both so helpful and do a great job.

Melodie Hamilton said the Pie Social went well and earned more than $500 toward expenses for the new community center. There will be more events coming up later. Thank you, Melodie, for all of your work!

The growing season is here and the community garden area has space available. The water problem of the past has been remedied and will not be a problem this year. If you have questions or would like to reserve some space, please contact Barbara Spencer the volunteer coordinator at 503-787-4311.

The Garden Club will be meeting at its regular place, the Mountain Gospel Fellowship on March 30. Gary Boughn of Guy's Hardware will be a guest speaker.

This time of year brings many changes, in nature and in our lives. Some changes we welcome -- warmer, longer days and flowers and trees budding out. Other changes are not so welcome. Just like spring weather, our lives bring sunny and stormy days.
On those rainy days, let's not lose the hope and anticipation of good things to come.
Until next time - blessings on your house.
