Finding a positive way to see things
What are those black and white masks called? I know they have a name. You know the ones. When Broadway plays, or our local plays are advertised ,they often have a picture of the two faces. One is always sad while the other is always smiling. Comedy and tragedy.
I don't know their history, but I think it has to do with theatre in ancient Greek times. It does remind me of life today, though. With so many things in life there are the two views. I can focus on the beautiful sky full of stars, or I can focus on the cold dark night.
We can fix our attention on what might be wrong or we can choose to see the good and lend a hand to help where we can. Just a thought.

There are so many wonderful people in Falls City who spend much time and energy doing what they can to build this community. I have had the privilege of meeting many of them. From the wonderful teachers and administrators in the schools to Garden Club leaders and web page gurus.
If you have a local person you would like to thank in a public way, please give me a call and I would love to do just that. You can reach me at 503-551-3265.

Just a reminder about the pie social this Saturday, March 4 at 5 p.m. at Falls City Elementary School. For all of you who are a little "wild and crazy," there is going to be Bingo as well. Don't miss it!

I know it is technically still winter, but summer will be here before we know it. There is going to be a benefit carnival at the park July 4 to raise funds for the community center. Melody is asking for volunteers (individuals or organizations such as churches) to host a game booth with prizes for the kids.
The organizations will benefit as well. Just give Melody a call at 503-787-4509 for more information.

If you haven't yet, you really should visit the Falls City web site at fallscity.org.. Rick has copied the old issues of the newspaper, the Falls City News. You can certainly get a feel of what the town was like long ago.
When was the last time you bought ham for 20 cents a pound? That was the price in the advertisement for the Falls City Lumber Company Store in 1911. There are so many fascinating and entertaining pieces of news and advertising. Trains were coming and going all during the day. It was a 20-minute ride from Falls City to Black Rock.
I wonder what the future will look like? I guess part of that is up to us.
Until next time -- blessings on your house.
