Falls City Notes / Dorothy Cassidy

There they are -- waiting. Toy trucks, bright yellow against the green grass, awaiting small hands to return to play with them in the sun. As I go in and out of town I see them in a pasture, on a little slope leading to a small stream.

I think we're all waiting, especially for the sun, or at least for the rain to stop. I think we are overanxious, though. We still have a ways to go.

But as we wait, we can sort boxes in closets and clean garages. The gardeners among us can pore over nursery catalogs. We're waiting, allbeit impatiently, for spring, but cheer up. It's only three months until the local spring plant sale!

It is going to look very nice around the new bridge this spring. The slopes have been smoothed, grass planted (I should say sprayed -- that's the way they do it now), and even some trees put in.

Some exciting things will be happening in the near future at the elementary school. Several new programs will be launched, and new faces will implement them. An active Parent Club will spearhead many activities and offer opportunities for volunteers. There will be an improved Physical Education program and a new Music/Drama Education program wth student performances.

It is wonderful to doors to new experiences open for our children. I am sure these programs will provide many ways to boost confidence in the kids -- not to mention the pride of parents who can volunteer as they watch their children succeed in a new venture.

Deb Darr, a local poet, read her original poetry to the Garden Club members on Thursday. Others participated with poetry readings as well. Gladys said it was a fun evening for everyone. Daryll, of Daryll's Nursery has been rescheduled for the Feb. 23 meeting.

The sculpture formerly located by the bridge has gone back to the artist for repairs. It is hoped it can be installed at the new location at the library by April. It should look very nice once the new landscaping is complete.

As we wait for the change of the season and maybe sort through things in closets or garages, maybe it is a good time to sort through things in our lives. May be time to let go of some things. May be time to pick up some new things. As a wise man once said, "There is a time for everything ... a time to keep and a time to throw away."

Until next time -- blessings on your home.
