Falls City Notes / Dorothy Cassidy

I have had enough "liquid sunshine" for awhile -- how about you? Whoever came up with that "liquid sunshine" term, anyway? When the wind is blowing and the rain is running down your neck because your umbrella has blown inside-out, it doesn't feel a thing like sunshine!

Bob Cooley says if the animals start pairing up, we had better look out.

Yet, I don't want to complain too loudly. Sunday morning was so beautiful. The sun came through the clouds for a while and the new snow on the hills literally glistened.

Last week when I talked about the aluminum can drive for the new playground equipment for the elementary school, I failed to mention that the cans could be brought to the school. The drive is just for cans with a return deposit on them, no bottles please.

To finish the playground project will be somewhat costly, and numerous fund raisers will be conducted over the next few months -- so there will be ample opportunities for individuals and businesses to volunteer time and money. To get involved, just call the school or Laura Gilbert at 503-787-1816.

The empty commercial building on Main Street is just begging for a new business to come to town. Got any ideas?

I hope all of you have had the opportunity to visit Home Town Grocery. It' a great store and seems to have some of almost everything in the way of basic groceries and snack categories. I saw a penguin cup with a straw coming out the top and all sorts of hardware for all of those little emergencies. And you can get a quick meal at the deli and brownies or fudge at the counter as you leave.

The community bulletin board out front always has interesting bits and pieces, things for sale and things lost and found. It is a great place to catch up with your neighbors.

I grew up in a small town with a general store. I remember the horse harnesses hanging on the wall. It was a fascinating place for a kid to explore, and I can still hear the creaking of the old boards under my feet.

Until next time -- blessings on your home
